On the first day to BDO...

The 2011 lineup gave to me,
Kick, push, kick, push, kick, push...Lupe Fiasco!

Paris, Tokyo is one of my favourite songs from Lupe Fiasco.
Very glad to this day that Fiasco developed an interest in hip-hop after initially
disliking the genre for its use of vulgarity.
But, hey, when you met rapper Jay-Z you wouldn't say no to a record deal.

Fiasco released his debut album Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor to huge
commercial and critical acclaim. He then released his second album, Lupe Fiasco's The Cool (2007).
The single Superstar became a hit, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
His upcoming album, Lasers, is scheduled for release on March 8, 2011.
I can not wait!

you know an artist is something when you get that kind of public notice.
Lupe Fiasco is a great hip-hop artist. He has won Grammy awards and
Fiasco has visited our shores down under before to attend Big Day Out.
I am super glad he is coming back after missing out on him last time.
Will not be making that mistake again :)
I have too many favourite songs from his two albums that I am
quite interested in how the set list is going to go.
To be honest, if I don't hear Go Go Gadget, I may cry!

So folks we have come to the end of the lineup.
Big Day Out is here and it's going to be a smashing day.
I promise I will tell you all about it when I get back home!

On the second day to BDO...

The 2011 lineup gave to me,
The controversial M.I.A.

M.I.A. is a stage name, but what's in a name?
M.I.A. began her career in 2000 as a visual artist and designer in West London, then
moved to prominence in early 2004 for her singles Sunshowers and Galang.
After releasing her debut album Arular in 2005 and her second album Kala in 2007,
M.I.A. found her voice and used it well.
Kala went gold in Canada and the United States and silver in the United Kingdom.
Her single Paper Planes became North American top ten chart favourites in 2008.
Paper Planes is one catchy song and I love listening to it in the summer time
taking a road trip across country.

Her early music relied heavily on a drum machine, while later styles in her third album Maya (2010)
have created layered textures of instruments, electronics and unusual sound samples.
A noted philanthropist and activist for many causes,
her activism has been met with both appreciation and criticism.
She has been recognized for her work as a music video director, graphic and fashion designer.

M.I.A. has become known for integrating her imagery of political violence into her music
and her cover art. Some of the lyrics on Arular are reflective of her
experiences regarding identity politics, poverty, revolution, gender and sexual stereotypes,
war, and the conditions of working class in London.
I love how she worked on the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack with O...Saya.
She has a passion for many things and you can tell she is a genuine,
authentic and amazingly gifted artist.

I am in Auckland now and anxiously awaiting tomorrows BIG day out.

Til the last verse.

On the third day to BDO...

The 2011 lineup gave to me,
The next best thing since sliced bread, I Am Giant.

The music video for Neon Sunrise from the London based band I Am Giant
comes from the bands EP City Limits/Neon Sunrise. The video clip
features 9 x World Surf Champion Kelly Slater. This track also features in the
Kelly Slater documentary/film "Cloud 9".

Shelton Woolright and Paul Matthews, previously from
other NZ rock bands, made their way overseas to start a new group.
Finally forming in 2009, the boys struck gold with their sound, that produces a
wave of energy and anthem. One listen and you will be wanting more!
This is exactly what happened to the group when Quicksilver came-a-knocking
and picked them as ambassadors. The world of exteme sport has jumped right
onto the band wagon as I Am Giant continues to produce high energy hits.

I have never seen these boys live, and am ready and waiting too...actualy,
no, I am almost bursting in the seams with enthusiasm for the group and
I'm really hoping for a kick ass performance.
Check these guys out now!
I know an album is being recorded this month, so hoping for
a release date soon, but the EP is still awesome and available on iTunes :)
There is my plug for the band!

OK. Only two more sleeps. My gosh I leave for Auckland tonight (I think!)
and I haven't begun packing.
Best get on to it!

Til the next verse.
